Camilla Luddington Opens Up About Her Hashimoto’s Battle

💔 Camilla Luddington Opens Up About Her Hashimoto’s Battle

Camilla Luddington, known to many as Dr. Jo Wilson on Grey’s Anatomy, recently shared a deeply personal update: she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition. Over the summer, she began to notice troubling symptoms chronic fatigue, brain fog, swelling and finally got answers through blood tests.

“It’s still new to me,” she admitted. She added she’s now on levothyroxine (a thyroid medicine), and has started shifting habits to manage the condition.

🪫 What Changed & What She’s Doing Now

Camilla says before the diagnosis, she was exhausted, often swollen, and mentally foggy signs she initially brushed off as stress. Once the blood work confirmed Hashimoto’s, things clicked into place.

Now, she’s adjusting her diet (avoiding gluten, focusing on anti-inflammatory foods), getting back to movement (she’s returned to boot camp workouts), and aiming to reclaim control over her energy and health.

She also reflected on how the diagnosis brought relief: she finally has an explanation for months of low energy and confusion.

🔍 What Is Hashimoto’s Disease?

Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, often leading to hypothyroidism (low thyroid function). Symptoms can include fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, muscle aches, and cold sensitivity.  Early detection and treatment (like hormone therapy) help many live fuller lives

Camilla’s candid update adds visibility to a condition many live with privately. Her openness may help others recognize symptoms earlier and seek guidance.

💬 Why Her Story Matters

  • It’s rare to see a public figure share raw health struggles so honestly.

  • Many fans dealing with undiagnosed thyroid issues might see themselves in her story.

  • She shows that chronic conditions don’t define someone; they’re part of a journey.

Camilla’s announcement is more than entertainment news — it’s human, it’s vulnerable, and it reminds us all to listen to our bodies.
