Weapons: The Horror Movie That Took Over 2025

Weapons: The Horror Movie That Took Over 2025

Zach Cregger’s original horror-thriller Weapons has transformed into summer’s most surprising smash. Opening on August 8 in over 3,200 theaters, the film delivered a stunning $42.5 million domestic debut—far above its projected $25–$30 million—making it Warner Bros.’ seventh consecutive #1 opener of the year.

Its momentum didn’t slow. On its second weekend, Weapons brought in an additional $25 million domestically and contributed to $43.4 million globally, outperforming titles like Disney’s Freakier Friday.

Even after three weeks, it held the top domestic box office spot for horror—unusual for the genre—solidifying its staying power.

Internationally, Weapons opened big across 72 markets, hitting $70 million worldwide in just three days—ranking it among the biggest original horror film openings in recent memory. It dominated theaters across the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and more.

Now, the horror hit is closing in on a massive milestone: $200 million in worldwide box office gross—a rare feat for an R-rated horror original. As of August, it stood just shy of that mark with approximately $199.4 million globally.

Audiences and critics alike are loving it—Weapons earned an A− CinemaScore, praised for its eerie atmosphere, tight pacing, and strong performances from Josh Brolin and Julia Garner
